# Managing your Relay license, Relay Account, and subscription

> Activate, refresh, or link your Relay Pro access and understand how Relay Account fits into subscriptions and licenses.

Relay uses a license or subscription to unlock Pro features. In `1.1.0`, Relay also adds a stronger `Relay Account` workflow for restoring entitlements and linking supported purchases across devices.

## Review your current status

1. Open `Relay > Settings`.
2. Select <Icon icon="credit-card" /> **Subscription**.
3. Confirm whether Relay shows Free access, Pro access, or a linked account-backed entitlement.

## Common tasks

* Activate a license
* Refresh license status
* Manage a subscription
* Deactivate a license on the current Mac
* Sign in to Relay Account by email link
* Refresh account entitlements
* Link an App Store subscription to Relay Account when prompted

## Free vs. Pro

On the Free plan, most of Relay is fully usable — building dashboards, tiles, and most modules doesn't require Pro. Two settings pages are locked until you activate Pro: **External Devices** (audio consoles, wireless receivers) and **External Control** (OSC/MIDI). If a settings page shows as locked, that's why.

Each license also has an **activation limit** — the number of Macs it can be active on at once, shown alongside your current activation count in the license popover. If you've moved to a new Mac and licensing won't activate, you may need to deactivate an old device first.

## Relay Account

Relay Account can be used to:

* restore user-scoped entitlements
* link supported App Store subscriptions
* keep account-backed licensing clearer across devices

If Relay asks you to sign in, it uses an email magic-link flow — enter your email, then follow the link Relay sends you to finish signing in.

### Linking an App Store subscription

If Relay detects a pending App Store purchase that isn't yet linked to a Relay Account, it shows a card with the product and transaction details and a prompt to connect an email. Enter your email, wait for the sign-in link (you can request another after a short cooldown if it doesn't arrive), and follow it to finish linking — the purchase then shows as connected to that email going forward.

## Troubleshooting

If Pro features remain locked:

* Confirm the Mac is online.
* Refresh the current license status.
* If you use Relay Account, refresh entitlements there too.
* If you purchased through the App Store, finish any pending account-link step shown in Settings.
