Relay provides deep audio integration for monitoring your production environment. These modules rely on inputs configured in your Global Audio Settings.

SPL Meter

The SPL Meter module displays sound level data from any Mac audio input.

Setup

  1. Open the Global Audio Settings and configure an input in the Measurement tab.
  2. Add the SPL Meter module to a tile and select that measurement input.
  3. Select your desired weighting (A, C, Z for flat, or C-A to show the difference between the two) and time weighting (Fast or Slow).

Features

  • Calibration: Apply an offset (in dB) within Global Audio Settings to match a known reference meter.
  • Averaging: Optionally average readings over a configurable window (in seconds) instead of showing the instantaneous level.
  • History graph: Show a running graph of raw or averaged SPL, with configurable history length and graph height.
  • Warning and alert thresholds: Set two dB thresholds with independent colors for normal, warning, and alert states, so a tile visibly changes color as levels climb.
  • Bar meter: Optionally show a bar-style meter alongside the numeric readout, with separate upper and lower limits for the C-A comparison view.
  • SPL Logging: Relay can record SPL data directly to CSV files when Live Mode is active, complete with a pulsing green indicator on your tiles. Logged exports can include raw dBFS and peak values in addition to the weighted SPL reading.

Real-Time Analyzer (RTA)

A visual analysis module that breaks down your audio inputs into discrete frequency bands in real-time.

Setup

  1. Configure a measurement input in Global Audio Settings.
  2. Add the RTA module to a tile and select the input. You can add more than one input to the same RTA tile to compare sources directly.

Features

  • Display Modes: Choose between standard bar graphs or a filled-curve display.
  • Resolution: Six band resolutions from 1-octave (10 bands) up to 1/48-octave (478 bands), trading detail for a busier display: 1-octave, 1/3-octave (31 bands), 1/6-octave (61 bands), 1/12-octave (120 bands), 1/24-octave (240 bands), and 1/48-octave.
  • Peak Hold: Enable peak-hold to track the highest frequency levels over time, with a configurable decay rate in dB per second.
  • Time smoothing: Fast or Slow smoothing controls how quickly the display responds to level changes.
  • Range: Set the visible frequency range and dB range independently, and apply A/C/Z/C-A weighting to the analysis.
  • Warning colors: Optional threshold-based coloring, same as the SPL Meter.
  • No-input state: Shows a clear “No audio input available” message instead of a blank tile when no input is selected.

Spectrograph

A scrolling waterfall view that visualizes audio frequency distributions over time, helping you spot persistent feedback frequencies or structural imbalances.

Setup

  1. Configure a measurement input and set a custom display color in Global Audio Settings.
  2. Add the Spectrograph module to a tile.

Features

  • Visual Heatmap: Frequency intensity is displayed as color density over time, with configurable scroll rate and a choice of frequency scale.
  • Color maps: Fire/Plasma, Green Phosphor, Purple Glow, Amber, or a Custom map.
  • Range: Set the dB range independently of other modules, and apply the same A/C/Z/C-A weighting options as the SPL Meter and RTA.
  • Link to RTA: Optionally link the color and range settings to a companion RTA tile so both stay in sync.
  • Color Syncing: The module automatically utilizes the custom color you defined for that input in your global settings, making it easy to identify which mic you are looking at.
  • No-input state: Shows a clear “No audio input available” message instead of a blank tile when no input is selected.

DAW Transport

Keep your dashboard in sync with your playback rigs by monitoring and controlling supported DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) transport workflows.

Setup

  1. Connect your DAW via MIDI or network protocol in the External Devices settings, and choose the matching transport type: Pro Tools HUI, Logic Pro HUI, Reaper HUI, Reaper MCU, Cubase/Nuendo HUI, Digital Performer HUI, Generic HUI, or Generic MTC/MMC.
  2. Add the DAW Transport module to a tile.

Features

  • Transport Monitoring: See exactly when your DAW is playing, stopped, or recording.
  • Dashboard Control: Send Rewind, Stop, Play, Record, or Fast Forward directly from your Relay tiles without switching applications.
  • Command mode: Choose Automatic, MMC, or MCU to control how transport commands are actually sent, depending on what your DAW and connection type support.
  • Display mode: Show a running clock or SMPTE-style timecode, depending on the transport type.

Live Transcription

Converts a selected audio input into scrolling text on the dashboard. This is incredibly useful for providing live cues or context to operators without an intercom.

Setup

  1. Add inputs via the Transcription tab of your Global Audio Settings.
  2. Add the Live Transcription module to a tile and select the input.

Features

  • Advanced Controls: Fine-tune auto-gain sensitivity and engine preference per-input.
  • Word Substitutions: Easily filter or replace specific words on the fly (e.g., replacing a speaker’s verbal tick).
  • Profanity Controls: Automatically mask or remove profanity from the transcript.
  • Automation Triggers: You can use word detection to trigger automation workflows.
  • Transcript tools: Show live transcript entries, copy or export the transcript as text, clear it, or jump to the most recent entry.

Global Audio Settings

Relay uses a centralized configuration manager for all audio sources, split into two tabs:
  • Measurement — inputs used for visual monitoring (SPL Meter, RTA, Spectrograph). Add inputs, set a calibration offset in dB, and choose a custom display color for visualization graphs.
  • Transcription — inputs used specifically for speech-to-text, including the auto-gain, engine preference, word substitution, and profanity controls described above.

Permissions that matter

These modules commonly depend on microphone access, Speech Recognition access, and a usable audio input source. If system audio transcription is part of the workflow, screen or system-audio capture permissions may also matter depending on the capture path.

Troubleshooting

Transcription does not start

Check microphone permission, Speech Recognition permission, whether another app is already using the same input, and whether Live Mode is required for your current setup.

SPL Meter is paused or flat

Check the selected input source, microphone permission, whether Live Mode is enabled, and whether your calibration assumptions are reasonable.
