The short version
- You can use Rivr without an account. Without one, your trips, fly box and settings stay on your device.
- Fly-box scanning runs on your device.
- We don’t sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps or websites.
- Sharing data to improve Rivr is off unless you turn it on, and what you share isn’t tied to your account.
- You can delete your account and synced data from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
If you sign in with Apple and turn on sync, we store the following so it can be restored across your devices:- An account identifier from Apple. We don’t ask Apple for your name or email.
- Your trip log: the water, date, fishing method, time fished, how many anglers, fish counts, catches and flies, notes, the conditions at the time, and the GPS location you logged.
- Your saved waters, condition-alert rules and app settings.
- Fly scans: the cropped image of a single fly, the pattern name you chose, and the app’s guess. This is sent with a random identifier, not your account. It doesn’t include your location or your full fly-box photo.
- Trip insights: a summary of the trip (the water, season, method, fish counts, catches and conditions) under random identifiers. It doesn’t include your notes, photos or GPS location.
Location
Rivr asks for your location only while you’re using the app. It uses it to find nearby waters, match regulation boundaries, and look up weather. To get that data, coordinates are sent to Apple Weather and to public government data services (such as USGS and the U.S. Census geocoder). Rivr doesn’t track your location in the background. A location is stored on our servers only when you save it in a synced trip or include it in a data-problem report.Who we share data with
We don’t sell or rent personal data. We use these service providers to run Rivr:- Supabase hosts our database, storage and account sign-in.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, push notifications and Apple Weather.
- Public data services (USGS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, TVA, the Southwestern Power Administration, the U.S. Census Bureau, iNaturalist, GBIF) receive the map coordinates or site identifiers needed to answer a lookup. They don’t receive your account information.
Keeping and deleting data
- Delete your account: go to Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your synced trip log, fly-pattern performance history, saved waters, alert rules and app settings, and deletes your account, and revokes Rivr’s Sign in with Apple access. It also removes the push registration and alert history from our servers for every device signed in to that account; any alert settings saved on those phones stay on the phones.
- Delete contributions: go to Settings → Help improve Rivr. From there you can stop sharing and delete everything this device has contributed.
- Data on your device stays until you delete it in the app or delete the app.
- Server backups age out within 30 days.
